Is Worship Important?

Worship is a must for all believers. Without it spiritual growth is impossible. It is where a believer experiences the presence of God. The more a person studies the Bible, the better he becomes as a worshipper. The truths from God’s word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit are all essential for a person to grow spiritually. All of these happen while in worship.

As believers, we are called to rejoice and worship God in every situation in life. In suffering and trial, we can experience closeness to the heart of God. In these times of trouble, Job called out to God in worship and confidently blessed His name, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21

Purpose of Worship

True worship has several components as described by the apostle Paul in Romans, “I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2

The motivation to worship is the mercies of God, which describes all that He has given us, which we do not deserve. Then, the manner of worship is the presentation of our bodies, including our minds, hearts, hands, thoughts, and attitudes. Worship also involves the renewing of our minds through the help of the Holy Spirit and His Word.
